Description

The Power’Tron was born out of the TV Jones desire to create a pickup that has the character of a PAF-style humbucker yet retains the essence of a Classic/Filter’Tron. Larger bobbins, standard HB sized wire, and more windings create a badder, gnarlier older brother to the TV Classic (and TV Classic Plus).

Tone/Characteristics: Mixing the vintage tone of a golden-age PAF with the rockabilly twang of a late-'50s Filter'Tron. Full body and a clear top end that is naturally dynamic. Digging in reveals a chunky low-end breakup paired with a barky top-end grit that sounds amazing through a tube amp. This is a punch and shine choice if you like the overall Classic/Filter’Tron sound but want more punch & shine than usually provided by lower output pickups.

Installation: The Universal Mount is a direct drop-in replacement for standard sized CLassic/Filter'trons - with and without "ears" or “clips”. This pickup comes with two pieces of compression rubber, 2 mounting (wood) screws, and the Universal Mount Clip Pack which includes everything you will need to mount the pickups to your ring or pickguard.
Output/Power: DC Resistance is not entirely an indicator of true pickup output, although it can be helpful.
Bridge: DCR - 7.8k / Inductance - 4.75H

Wiring Notes: This pickup is shipped with 4-conductor wire but is ready for standard 2-conductor connection. The extra red and green wires come soldered together and taped off - to split coils, send these to ground.

Splitting coils works well with the Power’tron because of its naturally higher output. 4-Conductor wire is also convenient for custom switching i.e. pickups combined in series or parallel.

Power'tron Plus - Universal Mount Bridge position

When Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top called up and requested an even hotter bridge pickup that could handle his fiery riffs, we knew we had to take it to the next level. The Power’Tron Plus is the hottest Filter’tron pickup we make and perfect for everything from creamy blues, to hard-rock, to metal. It's a bridge position only pickup that pairs extremely well with Power’tron, T-90, and even T-Armond neck pickups!

Tone/Characteristics: Designed with standard PAF magnet wire to resemble a hotter Gibson PAF Humbucker (in the 8.5k DCR range) while retaining the core Filter'Tron characteristics. The lows are tighter and more defined than a traditional Humbucker but it barks and growls generously when digging in. Lastly, it cuts through the mix really well for solos and chunky riffing.
