Stratocaster-Style Tremolos and Bridges

Stratocaster tremolo: precision, expression and playing comfort

The Stratocaster-style tremolo is one of the most iconic systems on electric guitars. Popularised by Fender in the 1950s, it changes pitch through the action of a tremolo arm, offering many expressive possibilities, from subtle oscillations to more pronounced effects.

At ADP Guitar Parts, explore our selection of Stratocaster-style electric guitar tremolos, designed to replace an original bridge, upgrade an instrument or build a custom guitar project.

6-screw or 2-point Stratocaster tremolo: what are the differences?

Stratocaster-style tremolos are mainly available in two configurations, each with its own characteristics.

The vintage 6-screw tremolo follows the traditional design of early Stratocasters. Mounted to the guitar body with six aligned screws, it is especially valued for its classic look and faithfulness to historic instruments.

The modern 2-point tremolo, also called 2 points, uses two pivot points that facilitate bridge movement. This design reduces friction at the mounting points and promotes smooth operation when the system is properly set up.

The choice between these two configurations depends on the type of guitar, the desired feel and, above all, the dimensions of the existing mounting points.

Components that influence tremolo performance

A Stratocaster tremolo bridge consists of several components that contribute to its operation and to the transmission of string vibrations.

• The tremolo block: generally made from steel, zinc or brass depending on the model, it contributes to the mass and mechanical characteristics of the assembly.

• The saddles: vintage bent steel or modern machined versions, they influence playing comfort and allow string height and intonation adjustment.

• The tension springs: installed in the rear cavity of the guitar, they counterbalance the tension exerted by the strings.

• The tremolo arm: screw-in or push-in depending on the model, it controls pitch variations.

• String spacing: an essential dimension to ensure proper alignment with the neck and pickups.

How do you choose a tremolo compatible with your Stratocaster?

Not all Stratocaster-style tremolos are interchangeable. Dimensions can vary between Fender, Squier and the many Stratocaster-inspired guitars.

Before replacing your tremolo, several measurements are important: screw or pivot spacing, string spacing, block dimensions and rear cavity depth.

Some guitars use specific dimensions, especially imported models. Checking these specifications helps prevent installation issues and ensures you choose a tremolo suited to your instrument.
