Because these potentiometers have two separate resistance elements, they are equivalent to a dual-gang potentiometer such as a Fender TBX, which has 2 potentiometers on one shaft (not the same as a dual concentric stacked-knob potentiometer, with one shaft inside the other). Some suggestions for wiring the two elements:
- For redundancy, run jumpers to connect both elements together. If one element gets dirty, the other one may not.
- You can connect 2 different pickups to one knob: one to each element, with different tone capacitors. A .015 or .022 µF capacitor works well for treble (bridge) pickups, and .05 or .1 µF for neck pickups. Do not turn the .1 µF tone control all the way down: use it only to roll off a certain high-frequency band, which makes even a Telecaster neck pickup sound like a jazz archtop
- If you need to isolate 2 pickups from each other and have only one hole for a tone control, you can wire one pickup to each wafer, with only the grounds shared
This custom Bourns PDB183 push-pull pot differs slightly from the usual design because it has two sets of lugs on the stacked pot. You can use it as a volume or tone control for two pickups with a single pot and knob. You also have the push-pull switch for splitting humbuckers, or for many other uses that require two switches (DPDT).
