TOWNER® Down Tension Bar II – Steel
The TOWNER® Down Tension Bar II (DTB II) is designed to increase the effective tension of the strings on guitars equipped with a trapeze tailpiece and a Tune-O-Matic bridge with a low break angle.
It helps stabilize the strings, improve sustain, and optimize response when the bridge height is low.
⚠️ Do not use with a floating bridge.
Why use a DTB II?
On some trapeze tailpiece setups, the string break angle is insufficient.
Consequences:
-
Lack of pressure on the bridge
-
Reduced sustain
-
Strings vibrating laterally
-
Low tension feel
The DTB II creates an additional break angle, improving:
-
String stability
-
Sustain
-
Note definition
-
Attack precision
Design & Installation
The DTB II mounts directly onto the Tune-O-Matic bridge posts, under two thumbwheels.
The system includes:
-
A pair of thumbwheels to hold the bar in place
-
A pair of thumbwheels to adjust the bridge height
This allows for precise and independent adjustment of tension and action.
Important:
The thumbwheels are currently imperial thread, compatible with Gibson models (Gibson uses imperial thread).
