Brass produces bright, clear notes with long sustain. It can improve note clarity and definition, making your guitar sound more articulate and more vibrant. Brass saddles also increase your guitar's sustain. The dense material transfers vibrations more efficiently from the strings to the body, extending the sound. Brass is a durable material that withstands the wear of frequent playing. Your saddles therefore last longer and offer better tuning stability, as they are less prone to wear and deformation than softer materials.
Steel tremolo blocks produce a bright, clear, punchy tone. They enhance the mid and upper high frequencies, for a sharper sound. They also offer good sustain, though generally not as much as brass. Notes may decay faster than with brass. Steel is heavy, but generally lighter than brass (this tremolo weighs 396 g without the arm), while still providing very good stability and very good tremolo return. Steel is very durable and resistant to wear and corrosion, which makes it a long-lasting choice.
