TOWNER adapter + V.Block for no-drill mounting of the BIGSBY B3 vibrato on a Gibson Les Paul. Christian Towner invented the DTB (Down Tension Bar) because he refused to drill a hole in his guitar. The DTB mounts on the tailpiece inserts of an American guitar. Its purpose is to hold the strings down on the bridge (like the front bar of a B7), but the advantage of the DTB is that its height is adjustable. By raising or lowering the inserts, you have full control over the V.S.T (Variable String Tension) parameter, which affects the sustain and the overall tone of the guitar. High string tension (bar set rather low) reduces sustain but gives the sound a dynamic, cutting character, while a raised bar produces a looser, more vibrant, even discordant sound. Towner stresses the importance of finding the right tension balance for each guitar. No drilling, no routing, no modifications to the guitar: this kit converts a Les Paul to take a Bigsby B3 tailpiece (only), with no modifications. The V.BLOCK is a complete screwless system that includes the DTB and the HPA. It uses a 1/2" thick block mounted to the hinge plate of the Bigsby B3 tailpiece, creating distance between the spring cup of the tailpiece and the stud on Les Paul guitar bodies only. The hinge plate adapter goes on the outside of the B3 hinge plate to raise the strap button out of the slot for easier access. Designed for BIGSBY B3 vibrato tailpieces only. The TOWNER V.BLOCK sets the BIGSBY spring cup back 1/2″ so that it does not butt up against the stop tailpiece stud. The TOWNER V.BLOCK system works best with Les Paul or short guitar bodies for mounting a BIGSBY B3 vibrato tailpiece. The TOWNER Down Tension Bar manages your sustain by controlling your break angle. By raising or lowering the TOWNER Down Tension Bar, you control how much downward tension is applied to your strings, and therefore their sustain. The TOWNER Hinge Plate Adaptor lifts your strap lock or strap button above the slot in BIGSBY B3 hinge plates, for easier access to your strap lock or strap button. Strap lock buttons and strap buttons do not fit in the slot of BIGSBY B3 hinge plates. The slot in the TOWNER Hinge Plate Adaptor leaves room for exact placement of the BIGSBY. The TOWNER Hinge Plate Adaptor acts as a retainer, holding the BIGSBY vibrato tailpiece to the guitar body with a 2″ screw placed through the strap button, so you do not have to drill the four extra screws supplied with BIGSBY B3 vibrato tailpieces into your guitar.
