Nitorlack Fiesta Red: an iconic 1960s colour
Fiesta Red is one of those colours immediately associated with vintage electric guitars.
Unlike many Fender shades inspired by General Motors automotive colours, Fiesta Red originated from a colour used on the 1956 Ford Thunderbird. Fender used it notably between 1960 and 1969.
Brighter and slightly more orange than Dakota Red, Fiesta Red has become a true reference over the years, found on many vintage guitars and instruments inspired by the 1960s.
Nitorlack developed its shade by studying colours used on vintage guitars to closely recreate the character of period finishes.
A genuine nitrocellulose finish
This version comes in a 400 ml aerosol spray, allowing you to apply a nitrocellulose finish without a compressor or spray gun.
It is ideal for building, refinishing or restoring an electric guitar and can be used to achieve a vintage finish on a Stratocaster or Telecaster body, or any other project.
Like all nitrocellulose finishes, the colour may evolve over time as the lacquer ages, contributing to the distinctive character of this type of finish.
Application
For optimal results, the surface must be properly prepared, with the wood pores sealed and an even surface before applying the colour.
Spray from approximately 25 cm away, using regular cross-coats: horizontally, then vertically.
Apply several thin, even coats. Nitorlack recommends allowing approximately 24 hours of drying time between coats. Light intermediate sanding removes dust and minor imperfections before the next coat.
The ideal application temperature is between 15 and 25 °C, in an environment as clean and dust-free as possible.
How many sprays for one guitar?
According to Nitorlack, one 400 ml spray can be enough to apply the colour to one guitar when the surface is properly prepared and application is controlled.
For a first project, or to allow sufficient margin for perfectly even coverage, the manufacturer nevertheless recommends allowing for 2 sprays.
