Paint NitorLACK Surf Green - Aerosol 400 ml

The nitrocellulose lacquer finish Surf Green, a Fender classic. Color inspired by the famous '56 Chevy car. It was used by Fender in the 60s mainly on Stratocasters with white pickguard.

Find the true Surf Green of vintage Stratocasters

The Surf Green is one of the most iconic colors in Fender® history. Inspired by the shade of the 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air, it appeared in the early 60s on many Stratocasters equipped with a white pickguard. Its subtle pastel green quickly became a reference for vintage instrument enthusiasts.

With this nitrocellulose paint, NitorLACK faithfully reproduces this historic finish. Each color is developed after significant research work to rediscover the shades of Fender® and Gibson® from the 50s and 60s.

As with vintage instruments, it is important to keep in mind that nitrocellulose finishes naturally evolve over time. Exposure to light, oxidation, and varnish aging gradually alter the color, which explains why two vintage guitars from the same year may today present noticeably different shades.

This paint thus constitutes an excellent base for obtaining a finish faithful to the spirit of historical instruments, which will develop its own patina over the years.

Application Tips

For the best result, the surface must be perfectly prepared before applying the color.

  • Apply a NitorLACK nitrocellulose primer beforehand.
  • The wood must be perfectly smooth, with the pores properly filled.
  • Spray at about 25 cm from the surface.
  • Cross the passes by applying first horizontally, then vertically, to obtain a homogeneous layer.
  • Apply several thin layers rather than one thick layer.
  • Let dry for about 24 hours between each layer, then lightly sand to remove any dust or imperfections.
  • Repeat the operation until a perfectly uniform surface is obtained before applying the finishing varnish.

Glossy nitrocellulose lacquer in aerosol

At NitorLACK, we have developed all our guitar colors in nitrocellulose aerosol format. You do not need professional painting equipment to paint your guitar. You can achieve a professional finish with our complete range of products, from colored undercoats to glossy and matte nitrocellulose varnishes.

Why choose nitrocellulose paint?

Nitrocellulose paint is the preferred choice of luthiers and vintage guitar enthusiasts. Thinner than modern polyurethane finishes, it better respects the vibrations of the wood and develops, over time, a very appreciated natural patina. It is the ideal finish for restoring an old guitar or carrying out a project inspired by classic Fender® and Gibson® instruments.
