NitorLACK Sonic Blue nitrocellulose paint - 400 ml aerosol

Sonic Blue is one of the iconic pastel colours of vintage electric guitars. Originally inspired by an automotive colour introduced on 1956 Cadillacs, this shade was later used on many American guitars during the 1960s.

Its very light, slightly pastel blue delivers a particularly elegant look, cooler than Surf Green and instantly recognisable on vintage-inspired instruments.

With this nitrocellulose paint, NitorLACK recreates this historic shade following extensive research into the colours used on guitars from the 1950s and 1960s.

As on period instruments, a nitrocellulose finish naturally evolves over time. Exposure to light, oxidation and lacquer ageing can gradually alter the colour.

On a light shade such as Sonic Blue, this effect is particularly interesting: clear lacquer coats can gradually add a slightly warmer, yellowed tint, contributing to the vintage character of the finish.

This paint provides an excellent base for a restoration or a new project with the look and ageing characteristics of a traditional nitro finish.

Application advice

For the best result, the surface must be perfectly prepared before applying the colour.

  • First apply a NitorLACK nitrocellulose primer.
  • The wood must be perfectly smooth, with pores properly filled.
  • Spray from approximately 25 cm from the surface.
  • Cross the passes, applying horizontally first, then vertically, to achieve an even coat.
  • Apply several thin coats rather than one thick coat.
  • Allow approximately 24 hours between coats and sand lightly if necessary to remove dust and minor imperfections.
  • Repeat until an even surface is achieved before applying the clear topcoat.

For good application conditions, NitorLACK recommends working in a clean environment at a temperature between 15 and 25 °C.

Nitrocellulose aerosol paint for electric guitar

The 400 ml spray format allows you to apply a genuine nitrocellulose finish without requiring a paint gun or compressor.

For a properly prepared guitar body, NitorLACK states that one aerosol may be sufficient when application is well controlled. For a first project or to allow enough margin for optimal coverage, the manufacturer recommends allowing for two aerosols.
