Christian Towner invented the DTB (Down Tension Bar) because he refused to drill a hole in his guitar. The DTB attaches to the tailpiece inserts of an American guitar. The goal is to flatten the strings against the bridge (like the front bar on a B7), but the advantage of the DTB is that the action is adjustable. By raising or lowering the inserts, you have complete control over the VST (Variable String Tension) parameter, which influences the sustain and overall tone of the guitar. Tight string tension (with the bar lowered) will reduce sustain but give a dynamic and penetrating sound, while a raised bar will produce a loose, more vibrant, or even discordant sound. Towner emphasizes the balance point in tension that must be found for each guitar.
The V-Block for B3
The V.BLOCK system is a complete kit that allows you to mount the Brigsby B3 without drilling. It includes the TOWNER Down Tension Bar (DTB), the Hinge Plate Adaptor (HPA), and the V.BLOCK.
The TOWNER V.BLOCK, by itself, is designed to adapt the bridge and wraparound tailpieces to Les Paul Jr.-style guitar bodies.
TOWNER V.BLOCK is designed for BIGSBY® B3 tremolo bridges ONLY. The TOWNER V.BLOCK is designed to move the BIGSBY® back 1/2" (1.27 mm) from the tailpiece or bridge support base. It also creates the necessary distance for the BIGSBY® to fit shorter guitar bodies.
The TOWNER V.BLOCK system works best with LES PAUL or short-body guitar bodies for mounting a BIGSBY® B3 tremolo tailpiece.
The Hinge Plate Adaptor is designed to offset the strap button above the slot in the BIGSBY B3 tremolo for easier access to the strap button. Strap buttons no longer fit into the slot in the BIGSBY B3 tremolo plates, allowing for precise positioning of the BIGSBY under the strap button. The TOWNER Hinge Plate Adaptor acts as a clasp that holds the BIGSBY tremolo tailpiece to the guitar body with a 2" screw placed through the strap button, eliminating the need to drill four additional screw holes in your BIGSBY B3 tremolo-equipped guitar.
